Fritillaria Cirrhosa is a perennial flowering plant and is a part of the lily family. It is found on mountain slopes of Nepal, China, Kashmir, and Pakistan. The botanical name of Fritillaria is Fritillaria Cirrhosa, and in Chinese, its name is Chuan Bei Mu.

Fritillaria grows typically about 70cm in height and has bell-shaped flowers. Each bulb of the flower produces 3 to 4 feet of the stem. Each stem surrounds wavy lance-shaped leaves. The maroon coloured stem above the leaves forms the whorl of downward-facing flower bud and top-knot of leaves.

Medical Use of Fritillaria Cirrhosa

Several species of fritillaria is used for medical purpose. The plant’s bulb is processed and used in various herbal formulas.
The bulb of the Fritillary is astringent, expectorant, antitussive, expectorant, pectoral, and febrifuge. It contains fritmine, which lowers blood pressure, paralyzes voluntary movement, counters the effects of opium, and diminishes respiratory centres’ excitability. The dried bulb is used to treat coughs, pneumonia, bronchitis, asthma, feverish illnesses, abscesses, etc.
The bulb also has a traditional history of use to treat cancer of the breast and lungs in China.
